1252. godina - Manastir Morača

Manastir Moraču je podigao 1252. godine knez Stefan Nemanjić, unuk raškog župana Stefana Nemanje. Freska "Svetog Iliju hrani gavran" pripada ciklusu od jedanaest kompozicija iz života proroka Ilije. Prikazuje proroka Iliju u času meditacije u pustinji, kraj obale reke Horata. Nije poznato ko je bio morački slikar, Sloven ili Grk. Ma ko on bio, djelo koje je ostavio u Morači predstavlja veliko dostignuće i trajno svjedočanstvo velike slikarske kulture toga vremena.

"A raven feeding Prophet Elias"
(1252 - The Moraca Monastery)

The Moraca Monastery was built in 1252 by prince Stefan Nemanjic, a grandson of Stefan Nemanja, grand chieftain of Raska. The fresco "A raven feeding Prophet Elias" belongs to the cycle of eleven compositions from the life of Prophet Elias. It shows Prophet Elias meditating in a desert, along the bank of the Horat River. The Moraca painter is unknown. He was either a Slav or a Greek. Whoever he was, the work he left in Morača is a great accomplishment and lasting testimony of a great painting tradition of the time.
